Many a time when we start working in a project we face road blocks from different quarters. Most of the time we try to solve them in superficial level. and similar people related issues arises again and again in new forms. We fail to understand the root cause. In this article I am discussing a few points from Bhagavad Gita how we can solve such issues.
First I will like to draw your attention to Verses 7.4 and 7.5 of Srimad Bhagavad Gita
7.4: Earth ,Water,Fire,Air,Ether , Mind,Intelligence & False Ego -all together these eights constitute My separated material energies.
7.5: Besides this ,O Mighty Armed Arjuna,there is another Superior Energy of Mine,which comprises the living entities which are exploiting the resources of this material,Inferior nature.
While apparently we equate ourselves with our "body" but our true identity is that we are blissful "spirit soul". Our soul is covered by the body , which we get while we are in this material world.
Our body has two sections: Gross body and Subtle body.Our Gross body consists of five earthly elements which we gather from this world like Earth,Water,Fire,Air and Ether. Each one of them is subtler than the previous one. Like we can sense Earth item as our flesh,bones are made out of it,we can sense the water ..but we can not see the Fire element which is like digestive energy etc and it is more difficult to understand Air ,Ether in our body. Gross Body is what which is easily visible to everyone including us.
Beyond this gross body we also have subtle body and its components are much subtler..our Mind,Intelligence and False Ego we carry from past life and definitely we can not see them or even sense them easily. The highest element False Ego is the item which we shall discuss now in this context. False Ego is the item which forces us to think we are the body.
Lord Krishna says in above verse 7.5 the Living entity uses this resources.. the Living Entity is Soul which is made of Sat ,Chit ,Ananda ( Eternity,Knowledge and Bliss) and uses these resources to act. Since False ego is in the highest level it normally gets covered by illusion (Maya) and it forces us to think that our material identity like Engineer,Manager,Male,Indian are very important . So primarily it forces us to believe we are the body and hence any thing happening to this body is actually happening to me.. Analogy: some one playing a Video Game using VR set may feel the pain or pleasure of the actor of the game while in reality he is unscratched.
The big dilemma we face when we are insulted or praised our false ego,our mind takes these at a material level or bodily level and let our intelligence think that we have been affected. While in reality we the spirit soul has actually not been impacted. Imagine a shirt ,even if it is torn or very new we know that this has no impact on our body similarly these insults or praise has got zero impact. This has been explained in Sankhya Yoga Chapter 2 of Bhagavad Gita very detailed.. and is a key to make us feel detached.
When we deal with others be in a project or other work or in our relationship this false sense of self imposed importance comes in our way to see others point of view or accept any set back. We start relating our set back or defeat as our personal failure. So if some task is not done by anyone or some one provides an unpleasant answer ,we instead of Tolerating the same ,we start reacting on the same.We need to think that the same False Ego in every other body creating a movie in their minds also In that movie they are heroes and we do not play important role and thus they naturally they do not have time to give us importance. Once we understand this we shall develop a sense of deep Humility and the same will make us more amenable to situation. Krishna Consciousness gives us this humility ..this helps us not only advancement in spiritual life but also handling many material life issues effectively.
I have written earlier in a different article that suppose a cricket match going on between India and Pakistan .. as long as my false ego is identifying me as Indian I will be very tensed. But in the same room if there is an American he will be normal and will enjoy the match as just a match. So it is important for us to understand our true identity as spirit soul. Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has said " Jiver Swaroop Hoy Krishner Nitya Das" // which means the true identity of all living being is that we are eternal servitors of Lord Krishna. and if we look a problem or an issue from that perspective we can accept the situation as they are . The moment we detach us from the result of the effort we can resolve the issue quickly. So next time when you face such issues in a project just detach yourself and think as this as a situation independent of your being or stature. That helps.
Now the million dollar question is how to train mind to treat us as Soul and not get disturbed. for that in Bhagavad Gita Lord Krishna says in verses 3.30:
"Therefore O Arjuna,surrendering all your works unto Me,with full knowledge of Me,without desires for profit,with no claims to proprietorship,and free from lethargy,fight."
Which simply means if we surrender the project work to Krsna and think the job as a righteous duty allotted to me by Him and we need only to perform the best without expecting any credit and surrendering the result to Him we feel detached. If we continue to do in each work throughout the day ,we reach a stage when we slowly develop the sense of detachment with full responsibility towards job's right completion . And that will solve issues from source instead of doing lot of fire fighting. However it needs lot of practice and we all are very fallen souls need to unlearn and learn this technique.
